The Entertainment Hall Returns: A Hidden Gem Reawakens at White Bay Power Station

After years of restoration works, the Entertainment Hall at White Bay Power Station is reopening. Once the beating heart of social life for workers in the 1950s, this atmospheric hall has been lovingly revived, blending its rich industrial past with a bright, cultural future.
The Entertainment Hall Returns: A Hidden Gem Reawakens at White Bay Power Station

Built between 1952 and 1954, the Entertainment Hall originally buzzed with concerts, social dances, picnic days, and even table tennis tournaments. Today, it stands restored to its former charm, complete with original features that tell the story of a bygone era.

What’s been restored?

  • Timber floors, polished back to life
  • Original 1950s light fixtures, carefully refurbished
  • Original landscape murals, preserved in vivid detail
  • A refreshed kitchenette
  • New toilet facilities
  • Modern safety and accessibility upgrades including handrails, sprinklers and accessible stage access

The space can now host events of up to 200 people, making it perfect for performances, community workshops, intimate concerts and creative activations.

The revival of the Entertainment Hall is part of a broader transformation surrounding White Bay Power Station, which is fast becoming one of Sydney’s most exciting cultural destinations.

The area will continue to evolve with:

  • New arts, cultural and performance spaces
  • Outdoor areas for dining, activations and live music
  • Connected community spaces, including playgrounds and gathering spots
  • A new public forecourt linking the Power Station directly to the harbour

It’s a rare opportunity to explore a piece of Sydney’s industrial history as it becomes a lively new cultural hub.

The Entertainment Hall will be open for specific performances, workshops and talks throughout the Biennale of Sydney.
