We're making it easier to enjoy White Bay Power Station with new walking and cycling paths, improved landscaping, intersection upgrades and more.
Exciting Improvements ahead at White Bay Power Station
White Bay Power Station is enjoying a renaissance as Sydney's newest vibrant arts, culture and community space.

To make your visit to this iconic landmark even more enjoyable, planning is underway to deliver more than $17 million in upgrades to surrounding footpaths, roads and public spaces.

The works will include:
  • A new signalised intersection at Robert St and Mullens St including three new pedestrian crossings
  • Widening of the shared path along Victoria Road, enabling easy access to people walking and cycling to the Anzac Bridge
  • New walking and cycling link between White Bay Power Station and Rozelle Parklands, providing a short walk to the Rozelle Bay Light Rail
  • New landscaping, improved shading, furniture and lighting.

Intersection and Footpath upgrades

Phase 1 – Intersection upgrade

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) in partnership with Placemaking NSW will soon upgrade the intersection of Robert and Mullens streets and surrounding footpaths, to improve safety for everyone who walks, rides or drives through the area.  This project is Phase 1 of the $17 million ReVitalise funding announced in July 2024.

More information about these improvements can be found at Intersection upgrade at Robert Street and Mullens Street in Rozelle | Transport for NSW

Phase 2 – Footpath construction

Phase 2 of the active transport upgrades includes widening the footpath around the White Bay Power Station from Robert Street around to Victoria Road near the White Bay Power Station Administration Building and Entertainment Hall.

The upgrade will benefit both pedestrians and cyclists by providing a wider, safer and high amenity footpath that supports active transport links to between Balmain and Rozelle to and from the Anzac Bridge and Rozelle Parklands, along with better access for visitors to the White Bay Power Station.

The works will include:

  • A new 4m wide shared path from Victoria Road around to Robert Street within the White Bay Power Station (WBPS) site
  • Moving the WBPS fence line to cater for the new path
  • Landscaping the verge to create a safer separation between pedestrians, cyclists and traffic
  • Retention of the existing bus stop, with the new path to go behind for safety and accessibility
  • Where possible, moving traffic, lighting and signage infrastructure to minimise impediments to safety and flow.
These works are anticipated to commence in mid 2026.
