Sydneysiders on White Bay Power Station

Built between 1912 – 1917, White Bay Power Station once powered Sydney’s tram and rail networks, playing a crucial role in the city’s growth. Today, it is transforming into an exciting arts, cultural and community hub. It stands proudly along the Sydney skyline, and is a beloved architectural icon to many. Lately, we’ve been listening closely to what Sydneysiders have to say about this special place.
“In my opinion, one of the most beautiful buildings in Sydney is the White Bay Power Station. I just love this thing, and I have a peek at it whenever I can. … I think that rust is part of what makes it so beautiful. You can catch a view easily from Rozelle or for a nice walk, look at it from the pedestrian side of the Anzac Bridge.” – Stacey Trock

“Love the decayed industrial vibe and smell.” – Yi Gao

“I feel that the station is an iconic part of the Inner West and integral to the history of Sydney. I would recommend anyone to come and explore the site and gain an understanding of a significant part of life in the past. I really like the renovation and rejuvenation of the station. It was well worth the visit!” – Map Roy

“What a treat it was to finally get back inside White Bay Power Station… a spectacularly beautiful building.” – Jackie McMillan

“Love this venue - they have done an amazing job converting it into a really unique space that is perfect for events. Have been twice and blown away by it each time.” – Anna
