A Year Since the 24th Biennale of Sydney 'Ten Thousand Suns' at White Bay Power Station

Curated by Cosmin Costinaș and Inti Guerrero, "Ten Thousand Suns" aimed to foster a sense of joy and encourage us to think differently about our connection to the world. This extraordinary exhibition leveraged the unique architectural character of White Bay Power Station, creating a powerful dialogue between the site's historical significance and contemporary artistic expression.

"Ten Thousand Suns" truly pulled out all the stops, earning it the Critics' Choice Best Art Exhibition Award 2024 in Time Out Sydney's inaugural Arts & Culture Award. From a powerful painting by queer Indigenous artist Dylan Mooney which overlooked the vast Boiler House to an incredible large-scale sculpture of a Chinese deity by Andrew Thomas Huang serving as a key centrepiece of the Turbine Hall, the exhibition showcased the visionary creations of leading artists from diverse corners of the globe.

Visitors also immersed themselves in an array of cultural offerings. Artist talks, live music, panels, performances, and workshops transformed the power station into a dynamic hub of interaction and learning. Family Days catered to all ages, providing a day filled with engaging programming for the young ones, ensuring that the Biennale of Sydney was an inclusive and inviting experience. For those seeking an atmospheric evening, Art After Dark at White Bay Power Station every Wednesday promised an alluring ambiance amidst captivating artworks with an interesting lineup of local musicians.

Now, a year later, White Bay Power Station is ready to continue welcoming a compelling calendar of events. Rediscover the joy of art, culture, entertainment and community and see what's on.
