Powering Up a Living Legacy with the 'Human Library'
Through an innovative, intergenerational ‘Human Library’ event experience, Balmain Association are celebrating and sharing their Balmain Association members’ stories and lived local experience of the last 60 years.
The Balmain Association are proud to be exploring and activating their event experience in the spectacular Turbine Hall. Meet and connect with their volunteer living 'history books,' in a unique 'one on one' interactive conversation experience.
Interact with their conversations on stage and also listen in by joining the ‘silent disco’!
You will experience the joy and the wisdom of intergenerational connection with our older members engaging in conversation with younger festival visitors. Children are encouraged to participate along with their parents.
Meet, connect and hear the stories of living a lifetime on the Balmain and Rozelle Peninsula.
‘Human Library’ Film Series Launch and Screening
The Balmain Association ‘Human Library’ stories are also being shared in an intergenerational film series, featuring local high school students Scarlet Stewart and Emily Barratt as hosts and co-directors of the series. Together they interview members and friends of the Balmain Association, including local Balmain musical talent Josh Pyke, creating a time capsule of memories. Here, you'll explore the stories of Ballast Point, Dawn Fraser Baths, the Watch House and many other local landmarks, the stories that made and saved Balmain.
Balmain based Creative Director and Producer Lisa Tatman of My Kind Co, is leading the Balmain Association ‘Human Library’ project, in her position as Chair of our newly established Arts and Culture committee. The Balmain Association actively supports creative arts and culture, both at the Balmain Watch House accessible gallery space and in our local community.
We would love you to join us in connecting, engaging, activating and celebrating the Balmain Association’s legacy.
The Balmain Association is a not for profit community group established in 1965 located at The Watch House 179 Darling St Balmain
