Art After Dark – Inner West Music Presents Body Type
Across three nights, the Inner West Council Music Series spotlights emerging voices from our own backyard, bringing the sounds, stories and diversity of our local music scene to Biennale’s global stage.
Body Type are a critically acclaimed all‑female rock band from Sydney and the Illawarra, NSW, featuring Sophie McComish, Annabel Blackman, Cecil Coleman and Georgia Wilkinson‑Derums. Known for their intense, energetic and genre‑bending post‑punk sound, the band has carved out a distinct place in Australia’s contemporary music landscape.
Across two EPs and two full‑length albums, Body Type have refined a style marked by sharp, swirling guitars, layered harmonies, and vocals that twist into ecstatic, unexpected melodies. Their music captures moments of elation, strangeness and emotional tension, pulled from the rhythms of everyday life.
Following the release of their second album, Expired Candy, Body Type toured extensively across the UK and Europe in 2023, performing at major festivals including Roskilde and Rock Werchter. Their London show featured a guest appearance from legendary punk musician Gina Birch of The Raincoats, cementing the band’s rising influence in the global lineage of women in punk.
In 2025, the band travelled to Velveteen Laboratory Studios in Los Angeles to record their third album with acclaimed musician and producer Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint, Courtney Barnett, Kim Gordon).
The new record — engineered by Bonnie Knight (Amyl & The Sniffers), mixed by Omar Yakar (The War On Drugs, Perfume Genius), and mastered by Jonathan Boulet (Party Dozen, ARSE) — marks a bold creative leap, expanding Body Type’s sonic depth and intensity.
New music is coming — and this live show is one you won’t want to miss.
The Inner West Music Series is curated by Niriko McLure.
