The Bays 

The Bays is an evolving urban area located two kilometres west of the Sydney CBD. This precinct includes notable locations such as Blackwattle Bay, Wentworth Park, Glebe Island, Rozelle Bay, White Bay and Bays West.
 

About Bays West 

Bays West is at the forefront of a new kind of Sydney urbanism that celebrates Country and embraces its natural, cultural, maritime, and industrial heritage. The precinct aims to create a sustainable and innovative area for living, recreation, and working. The development includes new activities, places, connections, and destinations that will enrich its character over time. 

 

Bays West Stage 1 Rezoning Proposal 

Finalised on 9 December 2022, the Bays West Stage 1 Rezoning Proposal sets planning controls for the development around the future Bays Metro station and White Bay Power Station.

Key outcomes include: 

  • Jobs and Housing: 5,400 new jobs and up to 250 new homes, including affordable housing.
  • Commercial Spaces: Offices, shops, cafes, and restaurants.
  • Community Infrastructure: A multi-purpose community and library hub.
  • Cultural Hub: Reinventing White Bay Power Station as a centre of cultural activity. 
  • Public Spaces: 4.16 hectares of new public and open space.
